Project Overview: Gender and Climate Justice

The overarching goal of this project is to raise awareness and disseminate knowledge on the intersection of gender and climate change, and how these issues affect women and marginalized groups globally.

To achieve this, we organized a series of transnational learning, teaching, and training activities, as well as a multiplier event. These activities serve as platforms for education, exchange, and collaboration among researchers, partner organizations, and adult education associations.

Planned Activities

  • Three transnational learning/teaching/training events were held in the form of conferences, combining lectures and workshops.
  • These events included contributions from national researchers and partner organizations, fostering dialogue between theory and practice.
  • A final multiplier event was organized to present and evaluate the project outcomes with both national and international participants.
  • Each activity took place over one day (excluding travel and informal networking) and was attended by researchers and representatives from adult education associations.

By inspiring adult educational associations and local organizations that conduct study circles on climate change, the project strengthens the dissemination of knowledge about climate change impacts, gender inequality, and their interconnectedness. This contributes directly to the goals of Agenda 2030 for sustainable development.

First Transnational Training – Vienna, Austria (June 1–4, 2023)

The first training activity was held in Vienna, organized by WIDE+ Austria and funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.

The program addressed themes such as:

  • Gender and climate change
  • Extractivism
  • Sustainable and eco-friendly cities

The event encouraged reflection, knowledge sharing, and cooperation among partner organizations. It also served as a space for strategic planning and coordination of future activities within the project.

Second Transnational Training – Sofia, Bulgaria (June 3–7, 2024)

The second training took place in Sofia, hosted by the Center for Sustainable Communities Development. WIDE+ and its partners gathered to explore:

  • Climate justice
  • Feminist perspectives on climate change
  • Local and regional initiatives from participating organizations

Each partner presented a report on a specific aspect of climate justice, compiled throughout 2023 and early 2024.
GADIP contributed the report Climate Justice, Gender, and LGBTIQ, first presented in Vienna, and introduced the study material Gender and Climate Justice: Get Ready to Engage!, alongside other partners’ educational methodologies.

Final Transnational Training – Brussels, Belgium (June 5–7, 2025)

The third and final training was held in Brussels, organized by WIDE+ Belgium. The event focused on the theme:
“Global Financing for Gender and Climate Justice: Utopia or Reality? A Feminist Reflection and the Future of the Gender and Climate Justice Agenda in Europe.”

This closing conference brought together the outcomes of the project and featured presentations of methodologies developed by each partner organization.
GADIP presented Climate Justice Bingo, a participatory learning tool, as part of the final collection of methods. All developed methodologies were showcased and uploaded to the project’s online platform for broader access and use.
